Asst. Principal, Hope Matthews

Hello Sherman Oaks Elementary Charter!

First of all, a BIG thank you to all of the staff, faculty, students and community members for welcoming me to be a part of Sherman Oaks Elementary Charter. I am very excited to join the SOEC family.

I was born and raised right here in the San Fernando Valley, and I have been working for LAUSD for the past 28 years. I began my career as a 1st and 2nd grade teacher at Dixie Canyon Elementary and then a 3rd grade teacher at Carpenter Community Charter. In my 7th year at Carpenter I became the school’s coordinator. In the capacity of coordinator, I was involved in overseeing many important programs at the school: single-subject intervention programs, after school homework club, social-emotional wellness groups, Student Success Progress Team, Section 504 Designee, 5th Grade Student Washington D.C. trip and Leadership Retreats, as well as leading the English Language Development Program.

In the fall of 2016 I became an Assistant Principal, where I remained half time at Carpenter and was assigned half time to Sherman Oaks. In spring of 2017 I was offered the chance to work full time for the 2017-2018 year at SOEC, alongside new principal Carla Miller, which I happily accepted.

It’s exciting to be a part of new leadership in a school community as wonderful as Sherman Oaks. I look forward to getting to know all of you and working towards continuing many SOEC traditions as well as helping to create new and exciting experiences for our students and families.
